Voters at the Mirza Abbas Women’s College centre are facing significant delays, leading to the formation of long queues. Reports indicate that the voting process is taking much longer than expected, causing substantial wait times for those gathered at the site.
At female booth number 6, the average time taken per voter is approximately 10 minutes, despite the fact that the process should normally take no more than two to three minutes. The situation is even more pronounced at male booth No. 3, where the average voting time has reached 15 to 16 minutes.
Voters express frustration
Many individuals standing in the long lines have expressed their irritation at the slow progress. Sufia Khatun, a voter at the centre, informed Times at 11:10am that she had been waiting in the queue for over an hour and had still not been able to enter the polling station.
Similarly, voters at male booth No. 3 who joined the line at 9:45am had still not entered the centre by 11:18am. One voter, Arif Hasan, described the pace of the voting activities as “abnormally slow.”
He expressed his concern that if the current pace continues, many voters may not be able to cast their ballots at all.
Presiding Officer HM Imran Hossain attributed the delays to the large crowds at the centre. He further explained that the voting process is taking more time because a national election and a referendum are being held simultaneously.
Additionally, the presiding officer admitted that one or two officials are working at a slow pace.
