BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir cast his vote at the Thakurgaon Government Girls’ High School centre around 7:40am on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to journalists outside the polling station, the top BNP leader described the national election as “extremely important” in the country’s history.
He stated that the results of this election would determine the future direction of politics in Bangladesh.
“By the infinite mercy of Allah, this national election is a momentous day for us. This election is extremely important in the history of this nation. It will decide which way the future politics of Bangladesh will go,” Fakhrul said.
He expressed hope that the “new journey of democracy” which has begun in the country would proceed smoothly. He envisioned this path leading the lives of the people, as well as the nation’s politics and economy, towards a beautiful and desired goal.
The BNP Secretary General claimed that the current election was the result of immense sacrifice and struggle. “We are very happy today that this day has had a successful start after overcoming many obstacles, much bloodshed, and many sacrifices,” he remarked.
Fakhrul alleged that millions of people were victims of police torture, disappearances, and killings during the movement. He specifically mentioned that on 24 July, approximately 2,000 people—including students, civilians, farmers, and workers—lost their lives. “This election comes after so much sacrifice,” he added.
Finally, the BNP leader expressed his expectation for a fair, free, and neutral election conducted peacefully. He hoped that through the participation of everyone, the election would mark the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh.
