Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui visited several election base camps in Dhaka and surrounding areas on Wednesday, issuing a clear directive to counter any attempts to disrupt the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
He underscored the importance of maintaining a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process, emphasising that any acts of violence, sabotage, or disorder would be met with firm resistance.
The BGB Director General visited base camps in Mugda Ideal School and College, Uttara Haji Camp, and Tongi in Gazipur, where he engaged with BGB personnel on duty, according to a press release.
The purpose of the visit was to review the force’s preparedness and ensure all measures were in place to maintain law and order during the elections.
During his inspection, Major General Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui assessed the operational readiness of the BGB, scrutinising the security and law enforcement strategies designed to prevent any disruptions or violence.
At the same time, he inquired about the security plans put in place for the election period and provided the necessary guidance to ensure their effective implementation.”
The Director General urged BGB members to perform their duties with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and impartiality. He warned that any negligence or complacency in upholding law and order would be unacceptable.
Furthermore, he stressed the need for strict vigilance and immediate action to counter any attempts to disturb the electoral process.
To ensure a secure environment for voters, Major General Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui instructed the deployment of additional patrols and the establishment of checkpoints across key locations.
These measures are aimed at facilitating a smooth, unhindered voting process. He also called on BGB personnel to maintain respectful and responsible behaviour while interacting with voters and the public.
In conclusion, the BGB Director General expressed confidence that his force would execute its duties with unwavering commitment, ensuring the safety of voters and the protection of the democratic process.
