Police have recovered a cocktail‑like object from near a polling centre in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
The object was found in Hijalbari village around 9:30am on Wednesday.
Locals said they noticed a red shopping bag hanging on the fence of the Eidgah field, about 100 yards from a polling centre in Hijalbari village. Being curious, they checked the bag and found the object wrapped in cotton and black scotch tape. Then they informed Gangni police.
Upon receiving the information, police reached the scene, put the object in a bucket of water, and safely took it to the station.
Gangni Police Station’s Officer‑in‑charge (OC) Uttam Kumar Das said it is not yet clear who placed it there or for what purpose.
He further said that they are investigating to identify those involved and uncover the motive.
Local residents reported that the incident has caused temporary panic in the area.
