BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmad and Cox’s Bazar-1 candidate (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency, led a massive electoral procession in Pekua on Sunday that reportedly broke all previous local records.
The mass rally, which saw an estimated turnout of over 50,000 people, drew participants from across various classes and professions
Local sources said activists and supporters from seven unions of the upazila began arriving from the morning using buses, trucks and other vehicles.
Supporters were seen carrying placards and portraits of Salahuddin Ahmad and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, while others campaigned for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol through songs and dances.
Organised by Pekua Upazila BNP, the procession started in the afternoon from Kabir Ahmad Chowdhury Bazar, moved along Banoja Road and ended with a street meeting at Pekua Sakur Par Station.
Local political observers said the scale of the gathering surpassed any previous political event held in Pekua.
Addressing the rally, BNP National Standing Committee member and Cox’s Bazar-1 candidate Salahuddin Ahmad urged voters to cast their ballots for the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol on 12 February, saying the vote was essential for democratic reform in the country.
