In a case concerning the brutal stabbing and murder of a young man named Rubel Mia in broad daylight in Savar, accused Bashar has confessed to his involvement before the court. On Wednesday, Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman recorded his confessional statement. Meanwhile, the other accused, Obaidul, has been sent to jail.
Both accused are sons of Alauddin Sheikh from Binodbaid area on Kamal Road in Arapara, Savar Municipality.
When produced before the court, Bashar voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement, which was subsequently recorded. However, the prosecution sought detention for Obaidul, and the court ordered his imprisonment. The two were arrested around 3am on Tuesday from the C&B area of the Dhaka-Aricha highway.
The deceased, Rubel Mia, was the son of late Rahmat Ali from Savar municipal area. According to his family, on the night of June 6, while Rubel was shopping for Eid at Chourangi Super Market near the bus stand, Bashar and Obaidul attacked him with sharp weapons and a hammer in front of his wife, children, and mother before fleeing. Locals rescued the critically injured Rubel and rushed him to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A murder case has been filed with Savar Police Station in connection with the incident.
