All scheduled banks across the country will remain closed on 11 and 12 February (Wednesday and Thursday) due to the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.
This means that branches will effectively be closed for four straight days, due to the weekend right after the election.
Bangladesh Bank made the announcement through a circular on Sunday.
The circular stated that the Ministry of Public Administration had previously declared 11 and 12 February as public holidays through a notice dated 25 January due to the elections, and accordingly, all scheduled banks will remain shut on both these days.
This directive has been issued under Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991.
Bangladesh Bank has sent instructions in this regard to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks in the country.
Banks will resume operations from Sunday, 15 February.
