Another 58,359 tonnes of wheat from the United States have arrived at Chattotgram port, bringing cumulative deliveries under the current government-to-government import deal to 172,452 tonnes, according to the food ministry.

The vessel MV WF Artemis, carrying the shipment, anchored at the outer anchorage of the country’s premier seaport on Saturday, reports UNB.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh will import a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat. The first and second consignments, totalling 114,093 tonnes, arrived earlier.

With the latest delivery, total arrivals under cash purchase agreement G to G-02, signed under a memorandum of understanding between United States and Bangladesh, have reached 172,452 tonnes.

Bangladesh is importing the wheat from the United States on a government-to-government basis.

Separately, under the G to G-01 agreement, Bangladesh has already imported 220,000 tonnes of wheat.

The process of testing samples from the latest shipment has begun. The ministry said steps would be taken to ensure swift unloading once testing is completed.
