Revenue collection at Chattogram Custom House rose 29.20 per cent year-on-year in August, offsetting the negative growth recorded in July at the beginning of the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The customs house collected Tk7,092 crore in August, compared with Tk5,489.27 crore in the same month of the previous fiscal year, according to data from Chattogram Custom House. The collection increased by Tk1,602.73 crore in a year.
However, the August collection fell significantly short of the monthly target of Tk10,544.23 crore. The customs house achieved 67.21 per cent of its target, leaving a shortfall of around Tk3,452 crore.
During July and August, the first two months of the current fiscal year, Chattogram Custom House collected Tk14,176.8 crore, compared with Tk12,918.65 crore during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, marking an 8.51 per cent year-on-year increase or an additional collection of around Tk1,258 crore.
Against the two-month revenue target of Tk21,530.34 crore, the customs house achieved 65.82 per cent of the expected collection, leaving a deficit of around Tk7,353 crore.
Data analysis shows that revenue collection declined by 6.78 per cent in July compared with the same month of the previous fiscal year.
The customs house collected Tk6,925.68 crore in July 2026, against Tk7,429.38 crore in July 2025, resulting in a shortfall of Tk503.70 crore.
The strong performance in August reversed the negative trend and pushed cumulative revenue growth for the first two months of the fiscal year to 8.51 per cent.
Officials said the increase in August revenue was an encouraging sign as the customs house faces a large annual collection target.
Assistant Commissioner Sharif Mohammad Al Amin, spokesperson for Chattogram Custom House, said the 29.20 per cent growth in August was positive and had largely offset the negative growth recorded in July.
“The revenue growth of 29.20 per cent in August is positive and has largely overcome the negative growth in July. Revenue collection activities are being further strengthened to achieve the target of Tk1,32,435 crore for the current fiscal year. Hopefully, this positive growth will continue in the future,” he said.
