Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Mokhlesur Rahman Shamim has stepped aside from all his responsibilities following allegations of involvement in match-fixing, saying the move was necessary to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
The allegations surfaced after a report by sports journalist Riasad Azim, published on his personal platform, claimed that Shamim had links to fixing. Shortly after the report emerged, Shamim announced on Friday that he would voluntarily withdraw from all positions within the BCB.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Shamim said he had relinquished his role as chairman of the BCB’s audit committee along with all other duties to prevent any influence on the investigative process.
“This decision has been taken to ensure a completely neutral, transparent and credible investigation,” Shamim wrote. “It should not be seen as an admission of guilt. Rather, it reflects my responsibility to protect the reputation of Bangladesh cricket and the institution.”
He described Bangladesh cricket as more than an official role, calling it a source of “emotion, love and honour”, and admitted the decision was personally difficult. However, he stressed that the credibility of the game must take priority over individual positions.
Shamim also pledged full cooperation with any inquiry and expressed confidence that the truth would emerge.
“I have always stood beside Bangladesh cricket, I stand beside it now, and I will continue to do so,” he said.
The BCB has yet to issue an official statement outlining the next steps regarding the allegations or the investigation process.
