The Bangladesh Women Sports Federation (BWSF) organised an inclusive sporting event at the Ria Gop Women’s Sports Complex on Friday, bringing together 200 children, both boys and girls, to promote gender equality, inclusion and mutual respect through sport. Khelbei Bangladesh supported the programme as a partner.
A strong emphasis was placed on encouraging girls’ participation, addressing the limited access many girls in Bangladesh face to organised sports. The organisers created a safe, supportive and motivating environment, enabling children to take part confidently while developing self-belief and physical skills.
The programme opened with a special mind-and-body session, Sustho Nishwash (Healthy Breath), introducing participants to breathing techniques and basic exercises aimed at improving physical fitness, mental wellbeing and overall confidence.
Under the guidance of certified coaches, children had the opportunity to experience a wide range of sports, including football, cricket, badminton, golf, tennis, table tennis, archery, basketball and boxing. For many, this marked their first exposure to multiple disciplines.
At the conclusion of the event, all participants were awarded medals in recognition of their involvement.
Speaking at the programme, BWSF President Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla said:
“When children learn to play together on equal terms, they grow up embracing equality. This initiative is an effort to build a future where both sport and opportunity are open to everyone.”
