Jomsom, a town in Nepal’s Mustang district, sits at an altitude of 2,760 metres above sea level. Known for its snow-capped mountains and clear blue skies along the banks of the Kali Gandaki River, the location has long been a favourite with Bollywood filmmakers. It is here that Sunerah Binte Kamal and Farrukh Ahmed Rehan filmed the musical project ‘O Jan’.
Shot in temperatures ranging from minus 8 to minus 10 degrees Celsius, the production presented a rare and demanding experience for a Bangladeshi team.
O Jan marks the second collaboration from the team behind the popular musical film ‘Moyna’. The song is sung by Konal and Niloy, with lyrics by Asif Iqbal and music composed by Avral Sahir of Dhaka and Lincoln of Kolkata. The arrangement is by Avral Sahir, while the video is directed by Tanim Rahman Anshu.
Sunerah described Jomsom as “a place as beautiful as a painting”, adding that shooting in such extreme cold was far from easy. “Still, it will remain a lifelong memory. Audiences will feel the beauty of Nepal when they watch the song,” she said.
Farrukh Rehan echoed the sentiment, calling the experience “extraordinary”. “Despite the biting cold, the stunning landscape made everything worthwhile,” he said.
Asif Iqbal, head of Gunchill Music, said O Jan is a pure love story, with fresh elements in its lyrics, melody, vocals and visual treatment. Producer Tanim Rahman Anshu added that the song’s visualisation blends snow, mountains and romance into a soothing cinematic experience.
The project is a joint venture between Bangladesh, India and Nepal, bringing together Indian cinematographers and choreographers, Nepali location managers and Bangladeshi directors and co-producers.
Although initially scheduled for an earlier release, O Jan will premiere on Gunchill Music’s YouTube channel on January 30.
