Two youths died after being electrocuted while reportedly attempting to steal a solar lamp post from the hostel ground of Mymensingh Zilla School on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 pm behind an abandoned tin shed on the school hostel premises.
The victims were identified as Hridoy Mia, 27, son of Selim Mia of the city’s Madrasah Quarter area, and Rakib Mia, 25. Police said the identity of Rakib’s father could not be immediately confirmed.
According to Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmus Sakib, Rakib was cutting the solar lamp post when it came into contact with a nearby electric wire. He was electrocuted and died on the spot.
Hridoy sustained critical injuries after being electrocuted while attempting to rescue his friend.
Local residents rushed both men to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared them dead on arrival.
