Government launched a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) Cloud and a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) facility at the National Data Center on Thursday.
The new services, inaugurated at the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) auditorium in Agargaon, are aimed at strengthening national cloud capacity and supporting advanced research, education, and digital services.
Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb presided over the launching ceremony, according to a press release.
Speaking at the event, Taiyeb stated that the platforms will resolve existing capacity constraints at the BCC and facilitate microservice-based digital services through a CNCF-certified Kubernetes PaaS.
He highlighted that the service comes equipped with built-in automation, security, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), high availability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
Regarding the GPU Cloud, Taiyeb noted that it integrates over 20 NVIDIA Volta architecture GPUs and will bolster higher education, research, generative AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing initiatives.
“This marks the first shared cloud facility of its kind in the public sector,” he added.
He further emphasised that the infrastructure will assist in ensuring compliance with the Personal Data Protection, National Data Management and Cyber Safety Ordinances 2025.
The advanced digital infrastructure has been established under the World Bank-funded “Digital Government and Economy Strengthening Project,” which is being implemented by the ICT Division.
The event was also attended by ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, World Bank Digital Development Specialist Suparna Roy, and other senior officials.
