A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petitions of terrorist Abu Rasel Masud alias Molla Masud, Arafat Ibn Nasir alias Shooter Arafat, and MAS Sharif in an arms case filed with Hatirjheel Police Station.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Wednesday after hearing their petitions.
On May 28, the court had granted a six-day remand for the three accused, while top terrorist Subrata Bain was given an eight-day remand.
On Tuesday, after their six-day remand ended, the trio was produced before the court, where police sought their detention in jail. Their lawyers then applied for bail.
The court ordered their transfer to jail and set Wednesday for the bail hearing. During the proceedings, their lawyer Lutfa Begum Parul argued for their release. However, the court ultimately rejected the plea.
Sub-Inspector Moksedul Islam of the prosecution wing at Hatirjheel Police Station confirmed the development.
On May 27, at around 5am, an elite military unit arrested one of Bangladesh’s most wanted terrorists Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali and his close associate Molla Masud alias Abu Rasel Masud in Kushtia district. Based on their information, two other associates—Shooter Arafat and Sharif—were later arrested from Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area.
During the operation, security forces recovered five foreign-made pistols, 10 magazines, 53 rounds of ammunition, and a satellite phone. An arms case was filed against them on May 28.
