The Election Commission on Sunday continued hearing appeals against returning officers’ decisions on nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The second day of hearings began at 10:00am at the Election Building auditorium in Agargaon. According to schedule, appeals numbered 71 to 140 were taken up.

EC Secretariat Director (Public Relations) Md Ruhul Amin Mollik confirmed the proceedings. He said the full Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin, will hear cases until 5:00pm today.

On Saturday, the Commission disposed of 70 appeals on the opening day of hearings. It allowed 52 appeals. Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed briefed the media after the session. He said 15 appeals were rejected, and hearings on three were adjourned due to factual inconsistencies.

Among the 52 allowed appeals, 51 candidates regained their candidacy. One individual, previously declared valid by a returning officer, was cancelled following the appeal hearing.

Hearings will continue until 18 January. Appeals numbered 141 to 210 are scheduled for Monday, while appeals numbered 211 to 280 are set for Tuesday.

EC officials said the outcomes will be displayed on monitors after hearings conclude. The Commission will also email PDF copies of verdicts to returning officers and concerned parties and publish them online. Copies of verdicts delivered between 10 and 12 January can be collected from the reception desk on 12 January.

In total, 645 appeals have been filed with the Election Commission.
