Daffodil International University (DIU), in collaboration with Prime Islami Life Insurance Limited, held the “Guardian Insurance Claim Cheque Handover Ceremony” at the Daffodil Smart City (DSC) campus, marking a significant humanitarian milestone in the country’s higher education sector on Wednesday.
Under the university’s Student Guardian Insurance Policy, a total of 102 insurance claim cheques amounting to Tk30.6 million were handed over in three phases to students and their families, according to a press release.
Since the initiative was launched in 2019, DIU has disbursed insurance claims exceeding Tk150 million to 504 guardians, setting a first-of-its-kind example in Bangladesh’s university sector.
The initiative aims to ensure that students’ academic journeys are not disrupted by sudden financial crises arising from the untimely death of a guardian or severe illness.
The insurance support system reflects DIU’s commitment to student welfare and stands as a pioneering model in higher education.
Speaking at the ceremony, DIU Treasurer Dr Md Hamidul Haque Khan highlights that the initiative is the result of the far-sighted leadership of Dr Md Sabur Khan, chairman of the Daffodil Family.
He reiterates that the core objective is to ensure no meritorious student is forced to discontinue education due to financial hardship.
While the loss of parents cannot be compensated, DIU and Prime Islami Life Insurance Limited remain committed to standing beside students during their most difficult times.
Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr MR Kabir, in his address, encourages students to transform grief into strength and remain focused on pursuing their education and dreams.
He underscores that the university strives to create an environment where students feel supported, valued and confident, assuring them of continued institutional support.
