The government of Maldives has provided an opportunity for Bangladeshis living in the country without proper documents to legalise their status.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, the “Mass Legalisation Program,” conducted under “Operation Kurangi,” aims to address expatriates working in the Maldives without valid permits, those with expired permits, or those residing without proper identification documents.
As part of this initiative, the ministry will provide job‑matching services to assist expatriates seeking employment.
Accordingly, expatriates who currently do not have an employer and have updated their biometrics under “Operation Kurangi” are requested to complete and submit the application form attached to this announcement.
This process, which began on 1 January, will continue until 2 April. The Bangladesh High Commission has urged undocumented expatriates to take advantage of this opportunity.
Over 100,000 expatriate Bangladeshis reside in the Maldives. Many are working without valid documents, leading the Maldivian administration to declare them illegal. However, the government has now granted them an opportunity to become legal.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, Mohammad Nazmul Islam, said, “The Maldivian Security Ministry will open a site, and applications can be submitted from there.”
He also commented that this type of package from the country’s government is a significant opportunity for Bangladeshi expatriates.
