BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, accompanied by senior party leaders, will pay tribute to party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at his grave in Dhaka on Friday.
After the Jummah prayers, he will visit the mausoleum of Ziaur Rahman and later go to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Tarique will offer prayers for the eternal peace of his father’s soul at the mausoleum.
The schedule for the first three days following Tarique Rahman’s return was announced to journalists on Wednesday at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.
Tarique arrived in the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:39am on Thursday from London, travelling via Sylhet in a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. His wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman accompanied him.
Senior BNP leaders were present at the airport to receive him, marking his first return to the country after nearly two decades abroad. He remained at the airport for almost an hour before leaving at 12:41pm in a bulletproof bus for Purbachal, where a grand public reception had been organised.
