Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has collected nomination papers to contest the Dhaka-15 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Dhaka-15 comprises Mirpur areas under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) wards 4, 13 and 14, along with the Cantonment area under DNCC ward 16.
Meanwhile, in Dhaka-13, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mamunul Haque and National Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj have also collected nomination papers. The Dhaka-13 constituency includes the Mohammadpur area, covering DNCC wards 28 to 34.
The returning officer for Dhaka-13 and Dhaka-15, Md Yunuch Ali, confirmed the information on Thursday.
He said BNP leader Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton had earlier collected nomination papers for Dhaka-15.
The BNP has nominated Milton to contest against Jamaat chief Dr Shafiqur Rahman in the constituency.
Safiqul Islam Milton is a leader of the Dhaka Metropolitan Jubo Dal, the BNP’s youth wing. He previously served as senior joint secretary of the organisation and also briefly performed duties as its general secretary.
According to the returning officer, a total of 21 prospective candidates have collected nomination papers for the two constituencies.
The deadline for submission of nomination papers is 29 December.
The election is scheduled to be held on 12 February next year.
