Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, was laid to eternal rest next to the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University on Saturday.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at around 2:30pm in the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. The funeral prayer was led by his elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddiq.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, and leaders and activists from various political parties and organisations attended the janaza at the Jatiya Sangsad.
After the janaza, the ambulance carrying Hadi’s body arrived at the grave of poet Kazi Nazrul. Following religious rituals, the burial took place around 3:30pm.
Hadi was buried on the south side of the national poet’s grave. His grave lies on the eastern side of the second slot next to Dhaka University’s central mosque.
At the time, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and other law enforcement personnel surrounded the entire area to ensure strict security.
After the burial, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said, “Sharif Osman Hadi has become a part of history. May Allah accept his sacrifice for the country.”
He further added, “It feels to us as if Dhaka University has taken its son into its arms.”
During the burial, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman, NCP member secretary Akhter Hossen, NCP convener for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah, NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary, leaders of Dhaka University’s Sada Dal, Islami Chhatra Shibir President Jahidul Islam, and members of Hadi’s family were also present.
