A court has granted a three-day remand for Md Nuruzzaman Nomani, who was arrested for aiding Faisal Karim Masud, accused in the attempted murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, by renting a microbus for his escape.
On Wednesday, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam’s court issued the order after a hearing. On this day, the case’s investigating officer applied for a five-day remand for him.
During this time, prosecution lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki, argued in favour of the remand. After the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand. However, there was no lawyer present for the defence on this day.
Earlier, on December 14, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jabber filed the case as the plaintiff.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that on 11 December, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Hadi had started various election-oriented activities even before the announcement of the election schedule, as an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency.
Since last year’s student-led mass uprising, central leaders and activists at all levels of the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina have been engaged in conspiracies both overt and covert, providing direct and indirect instigation, instructions, and patronage for terrorist activities, sabotage, cocktail explosions, petrol bomb attacks, arson terrorism using gunpowder, supplying local and foreign arms and ammunition, spreading online rumors, and intimidation.
Through this, they are plotting to jeopardise the country’s sovereignty, create an anarchic situation to destabilise the country, instill fear and terror in the public mind, and ultimately nullify the upcoming election by demoralising interested candidates.
The FIR further states that on 12 December, after performing Jumma prayers in Motijheel, Hadi concluded his election campaign. Later, while on his way to Suhrawardy Udyan around 2:20pm that day, when the autorickshaw carrying Hadi reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station, miscreants on a motorcycle shot him in the head with the intent to kill and fled.
He was then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. After an operation there, he was transferred to Evercare. Subsequently, on Monday, he was sent to Singapore for advanced treatment.
