BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman has warned that ongoing conspiracy will make the upcoming national election difficult.
He made the remarks on Saturday evening as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Plan for Nation Building,” organized by BNP at the Krishibid Institute Auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka.
Referring to recent incidents, including the shooting of their candidate in Dhaka and Chittagong, he said, “What I have been saying is gradually becoming true. These events prove that the conspiracy against the nation is real. We need to reduce our internal differences. If we are not united, the country will be destroyed.”
He stressed, “Now is not the time to sit idle. People of Bangladesh are the biggest ally in this battle. We must win this war with the people’s support. There is no alternative. Let’s seek cooperation on three key issues. We will meet on the battlefield, in the struggle, and at the polling stations.”
Tarique Rahman added, “BNP has always saved the country from destruction. The country has been on the brink of collapse many times, but under the leadership of Shaheed Zia and Khaleda Zia, we have brought it back from the edge every time.”
He further stated, “We will only be able to bring the country back from the brink if we confront the conspiracies that are currently ongoing. Sources say these conspiracies won’t stop here and could get worse. But we must not be afraid or intimidated. We need to give the people courage, unite ourselves, and unite the democratic people of the country.”
Tarique Rahman emphasised that unity is crucial for the success of the upcoming elections, stating, “The more united we are, the further we go. Elections will take place at any cost. The more we prepare, the more the conspirators will be forced to retreat.”
He also referred to the shooting incidents involving candidates in Chittagong and Dhaka, saying, “Incidents have occurred in both Chittagong and Dhaka. Some are trying to exploit these events. We must remain vigilant.”
Tarique Rahman urged the focus to shift from personal gains to national contributions, saying, “We must ask how much we have contributed to the country and the nation. Our goal should be to establish peace, order, and the rule of law.”
The workshop also included discussions on BNP’s plans and strategies for various issues such as canal excavation, health cards, farmer cards, family cards, education, unemployment, information technology, and combating air and water pollution.
The event, chaired by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and conducted by Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, saw participation from BNP’s grassroots leaders on the seventh day of this ongoing workshop.
