Three incidents of fire occurred in Gazipur on Monday, burning four cotton warehouses, a jhut warehouse, and 80 rooms of a slum.
The incidents were reported from Tongi, Konabari, and Kaliakair areas between 5am and 10am, said Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun.
Witnesses said a fire broke out at a cotton warehouse in Tongi around 5am and spread to two more warehouses immediately.
Upon receiving the news, four units of the fire service managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly an hour of effort. All goods in the three warehouses were burnt to ashes.
In another incident, a fire broke out at a jhut warehouse in the Ambag Purbopara area under Konabari Police Station. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after nearly two hours of effort. All goods in the warehouse were damaged.
Subsequently, around 9:30am, a fire broke out at a tin‑shed workers’ colony in Chandra Palli Bidyut Dighir Par, Kaliakair municipality. Most of the workers were at their workplaces at that time.
The fire service brought the blaze under control after an hour and a half of effort. Eighty rooms were gutted in the incident.
However, no casualties have been reported so far. The exact cause of the fire will be known after investigation.
