In a joint enforcement drive, five illegal brick kilns in the Sutipara and Rowail areas of Dhamrai upazila were shut down. The operation was conducted by the Department of Environment (DoE), Dhaka District Office, and the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the DoE Headquarters. A total fine of Tk15 lakh was imposed and collected, with each kiln fined Tk3 lakh, the department said in a press release.
The fined brick kilns are Messrs Raisur & Samsuddin Bricks, Messrs Threestar Bricks, Messrs Lion Bricks, Messrs Dada Bricks, and Messrs SN Bricks & Co. On the same day, two additional brick kilns – Messrs Mahi Bricks and Messrs ABC Bricks – located in Kulla and Rowail areas were dismantled by demolishing their chimneys. Furthermore, Messrs DSB Recycling Plant in Rowail was also demolished.
The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Md Rezwan-ul-Islam of the Department of Environment. Md Nazmul Hossain, Assistant Director of the Dhaka District Office, served as the prosecutor. Officials from the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing and the Dhaka District Office were present. The operation was supported by members of Bangladesh Police, a platoon of RAB, the Fire Service and Civil Defence, and the Palli Bidyut Samity.
Meanwhile, a separate joint mobile court was conducted by the Department of Environment and BRTA in the Shyamoli–Shishumela area of Dhaka. Exhaust emissions from 20 diesel-powered buses, trucks, and lorries were measured. Fines totalling Tk14,000 were realized across four cases for violations of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act. Additionally, two vehicles using hydraulic horns were fined Tk4,000 for violating noise pollution rules. This mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Fayzunnessa Akter.
