Eight political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, have unveiled plans to hold a series of rallies in seven divisional cities, seeking a level playing field in the upcoming national elections and to rally public support for a “Yes” vote in the forthcoming referendum.
The announcement came at a press conference on Wednesday at the central office of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis in Purana Paltan, Dhaka. Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Yusuf Ashrafi, presented the rally schedule on behalf of the participating parties.
In addition to highlighting unmet five-point demands, Yusuf Ashrafi said the rallies aim to promote electoral fairness and build public momentum in favour of the referendum.
The rallies are set for Rangpur on 30 November, Rajshahi on 1 December, Khulna on 2 December, Barishal on 3 December, Mymensingh on 4 December, Sylhet on 5 December, and Chattogram on 6 December.
He added that liaison committees would soon be formed to organise the events, following a decision made by party leaders at a meeting on 16 November.
Top leaders from all eight parties attended the press conference.
The participating parties are Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon, Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), and Bangladesh Development Party.
