Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the current political situation is known to all. Election Commission (EC) is ready to face any challenge.
He said a fair election is never possible if the political parties do not want it. No matter how much effort the EC makes, if any party attempts non-cooperation, the fear and doubt of a fair election will remain.
He said this at the beginning of the third day of dialogue with political parties at the EC office in Agargaon, Dhaka on Monday.
At this time, CEC urged the leaders and activists of the parties to follow the code of conduct. Representatives of political parties gave various opinions on holding a fair election.
They said EC must have the power to cancel candidacy if the code of conduct is violated. They believe that only then will the EC be able to hold a fair election. At the same time, political leaders advised the EC to be active in recovering illegal arms before the schedule.
On the third day of the dialogue with political parties ahead of the 13th parliamentary election, EC invited 12 parties including Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday. Six parties are sitting in discussions with EC on the morning.
They are- Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Sanskritic Muktijot, Bangladesh National Awami Party, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (JaPa), Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Bangladesh Kalyan Party and Bangladesh Muslim League.
In the afternoon, there will be dialogue with representatives of Zaker Party, Amar Bangladesh Party or AB Party, Bangladesh Development Party (BDP), Bangladesh Islami Front, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa).
EC is calling more than fifty registered parties to the dialogue in phases.
