Denmark has announced DKK 25 million in support for a consortium of three Danish organisations that will work with Bangladeshi partners over the next three years to advance human rights, promote independent media, and expand rehabilitation services for survivors of torture and violence.
The consortium comprises DIGNITY, International Media Support (IMS), and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
According to the announcement, the initiative seeks to strengthen human rights actors and institutions, build a free and independent media landscape, and improve access to justice and rehabilitation for survivors of torture and violence.
“This is a unique opportunity to strengthen civil society in Bangladesh and address persistent human rights and impunity challenges,” said Christian Brix Møller, Danish ambassador to Bangladesh.
DIGNITY will focus on enhancing the capacity of local civil society organisations to provide trauma-informed mental health and psychosocial support. The organisation will also work to address gaps in access to justice for survivors.
IMS aims to foster a pluralistic, inclusive, and resilient media environment during what it describes as the country’s fragile political transition.
The Danish Institute for Human Rights will support efforts to reform the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh into a strong and independent national human rights institution.
The announcement stated that the partnership is intended to help build a future where every voice can be heard and every life can heal with dignity.
