Police and eyewitnesses said the conflict began earlier in the day when a village resident, Ratan Sheikh, threw a soft drink bottle cap that hit another person, sparking a verbal and physical confrontation.

Tensions escalated in the evening when Ratan and his associates allegedly returned with homemade weapons and firearms, firing pellet shots and attacking the opposing group.

Local eyewitnesses said several people ran in panic as the attackers fired, and multiple pellet wounds were seen on the victims’ bodies.

Kumarkhali police station officer-in-charge Jamal Uddin confirmed that the incident began from a long-standing rivalry. Additional police were deployed to maintain law and order, and authorities said legal action would follow once a written complaint is filed.
