Joint forces have detained seven activists representing the ‘Hand Fan’ and ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbols during two separate operations in the Eidgaon upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
According to relevant sources, three BNP activists – identified as Ziaul Haque, Arafat, and Sajjad – were detained on Wednesday afternoon from the vicinity of the Purba Napitkhali Government Primary School polling centre in Islampur union.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, four activists from Islami Andolan Bangladesh were apprehended from the Eidgaon Al-Machiia Madrasa centre area and subsequently handed over to the police.
Army sources confirmed the detentions, noting that the individuals were found violating the electoral code of conduct. Local witnesses reported that the activists were attempting to exert influence within restricted polling areas and were hanging banners when they were intercepted by patrolling joint forces.
ATM Shifatul Mazdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Eidgaon Police Station, confirmed the matter. He stated that the four activists detained on Tuesday have already been produced before the court through a magistrate, while legal proceedings are underway for the remaining three.
