Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized approximately 6,400 kilograms of Jatka from Hatiya in Noakhali.
The fish, worth about Tk22.4 lakh, were seized during a special operation conducted by the Coast Guard’s Hatiya Station to protect the country’s fisheries resources.
Lieutenant Md Abul Kashem, the force’s media officer, disclosed the information in a press release on Tuesday.
According to Coast Guard sources, acting on a tip-off, the operation was carried out in the Meghna River under Hatiya police station from 6pm on Monday to 4am on Tuesday.
During the raid, the Coast Guard searched two suspicious wooden boats and seized the jatka.
However, as the real owners of the seized fish could not be identified, no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
The confiscated jatka were later distributed among local orphanages and the needy in the presence of the Hatiya upazila fisheries officer.
The Coast Guard stated that similar operations will continue in the future to safeguard the country’s fish resources.
