Forest officials reclaimed around 60 hectares of reserved forest land from illegal occupiers in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
The special drive was conducted by Abdullah Al Mamun, divisional forest officer of the Cox’s Bazar South Forest Division. It was part of the regular eviction operation to protect government forest land, conserve biodiversity, and maintain environmental balance.
During the operation, 25 illegally established betel leaf gardens, about 3,000 betel nut trees, and one tin‑shed house were removed from the forest land. As a result, nearly 60 hectares of forest land that had been illegally occupied for a long time have been freed.
Ramu Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Fazle Rabbani Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Swarup Muhuri, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Dariaardighi) Shyamal Kumar Ghosh, Ramu Police Station’s Sub‑inspector Sheikh Abdus Sabur, and other police personnel were present during the drive.
