Nearly half a million Russian soldiers have been killed since the start of the Ukraine war, according to new intelligence disclosed by GCHQ.
The agency’s director, Anne Keast‑Butler, revealed the figures during her first public speech on Wednesday, as she outlined the biggest threats facing the United Kingdom, reports UK-based The Independent.
She said Russia is “targeting critical infrastructure, democratic processes, supply chains and public trust.”
“In the face of such aggression and chaos, GCHQ is working tirelessly with intelligence and defence partners to degrade and reduce the Russian threat,” Keast‑Butler added.
She warned the UK is at a “moment of consequence,” with Russia “relentlessly targeting” critical infrastructure across the country.
