A 70-year-old farmer from Singair upazila has gone missing after allegedly falling victim to a “doping gang” while returning from a cattle market in Dhaka ahead of Eid.
The missing man, Mujam Biswas, a resident of Kanainagar village under Sayesta union, had gone to Gabtoli cattle market on Tuesday morning to sell a bull. He was accompanied by his son-in-law, 30-year-old Suruj Ali.
Family members said the pair sold the bull for Tk 90,000. They later sent the money home through another person that night due to security concerns before starting their return journey.
Around 1am on Wednesday, they boarded a local bus bound for home. It is suspected that members of a “doping gang” drugged them during the journey.
On Wednesday afternoon, locals found Suruj Ali unconscious in the Gazipur area. They used his mobile phone to inform his family.
Suruj Ali is currently undergoing treatment and remains in a weak condition. However, there has been no trace of Mujam Biswas since then.
The family alleged that the gang stole cash and other belongings from Suruj Ali. Relatives have since searched multiple areas but have failed to find the missing elderly farmer, causing growing anxiety.
The family is preparing to file a General Diary (GD) with Singair Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge Md Mazharul Islam said the incident took place outside their jurisdiction, but police would take necessary action once a written complaint is received.
