At least 50 people injured, including police officers and journalists, a violent clash erupted between residents of four villages in Bhanga Upazila, Faridpur, over the use of a microphone during a local football match.
The conflict began Friday evening around the Munsurabad market area and continued for nearly two and a half hours.
Although police and locals temporarily restored calm after nightfall, the violence resumed early Saturday morning around 7am. As of the latest reports, tensions remain high, and the situation is still unstable
Local sources revealed that the unrest started after a verbal dispute between youths from Munsurabad and neighboring Khapura villages during a football match microphone announcement.
The situation escalated Friday afternoon when two youths of Khapura village were assaulted by residents of Munsurabad.
Retaliation followed when Khapura villagers attacked Jinnat Molla, president of the Munsurabad market committee. Hundreds of people from both villages then engaged in violent clashes, wielding local weapons such as shields, swords (sarki), machetes (ramda), and throwing bricks and stones.
Eyewitnesses reported that the violence intensified after dark, with both sides using torchlights to attack each other. Police from Bhanga Police Station arrived on the scene to regain control. Injured individuals were treated at Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and other local clinics. Currently, the area remains tense and quiet.
Bhanga Police Station OC (Investigation) Alamin Mia confirmed that clashes reignited early Saturday morning following Friday night’s violence.
Authorities are making ongoing efforts to restore peace. Additional police and law enforcement personnel from Faridpur district have been called in to assist, with hopes of swiftly stabilising the situation.
