Joint forces detained around 50 people, including Chan Samurai, the ringleader of a teen gang known as “Chan–Manik,” during an operation in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The drive was conducted from 6am to 11am on Tuesday in Bosila and six adjacent areas, with the participation of members of the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, and the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
During the operation, law enforcers recovered locally made weapons, narcotics, mobile phones used in mugging incidents, and other items.
Police said Chan Samurai, the chief of the Chan–Manik group, is accused in at least 22 cases, including murder. Legal action against those detained is currently underway.
Earlier, police arrested Manik, the gang’s second-in-command, along with his associate Rajib, as part of efforts to curb gang-related crime in the area.
