At least six people were killed when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a truck in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as auto-rickshaw driver Shah Alam, and passengers Tanim Hasan, a student of Noakhali College, Israt Jahan, Bibi Kulsum, Jannat, and Md Suman.
According to locals and police sources, the crash occurred in Purba Fatehpur area of Kabirhat Municipality’s Ward No. 2 on the Sonapur–Basurhat road when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, leaving three passengers of auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.
Three others later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Kabirhat police arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia confirmed the incident, saying, “Six people, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were killed in the accident, among them three women and three men.The bodies have been sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized. Legal action will be taken based on the complaints filed in connection with the incident, he added.
