Today, Wednesday, marks the fourth death anniversary of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan Mizan, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
He passed away on 4 February 2022 while undergoing treatment at the Bangladesh Medical University (then Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University) hospital in the capital.
Justice Mizan’s legal career began on 18 March 1986, when he was enrolled as an advocate in the Barisal District Court.
He was subsequently enrolled as an advocate of the High Court Division on 22 January 1994 and the Supreme Court on 13 December 2007. During his career, he also served as a Deputy Attorney General for a period.
Mizan was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division on 18 April 2010 and was later made a permanent judge on 15 April 2012.
On 8 January 2022, he reached the pinnacle of his career with his appointment as a Justice of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
Beyond his judicial contributions, Justice Mizan held significant responsibilities in leftist political organisations for a long period before his appointments to the Attorney General’s office and the judiciary.
He was also a valiant freedom fighter who participated in the 1971 Liberation War in the Barguna and Swarupkathi’s Pearabagan areas alongside other leftist student leaders of the time.
