Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Md Moyeen Uddin Khan said 53 candidates had submitted nomination papers. Among them, 49 were declared elected unopposed — 36 from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat alliance, and one from an independent alliance.
The 36 elected women MPs from BNP include Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhter Ranu, Newaz Halima Arly, Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Shakila Farzana, Helen Jerin Khan, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jeba Amin Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Sansila Zebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minj, Subarna Shikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Shammy Akhter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bithika Binte Hussain, Suraiya Jerin, Mansura Akhter, Joharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Nadiya Pathan Papon, Shaukat Ar Akhter, Madhabi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.
The 12 MPs from the Jamaat alliance are Nurunnisa Siddiqa, Marzia Begum, Sabikunnahar Munni, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Hannan, Sajeda Samad, Shamshunnahar Begum, Engr Mardia Momtaz, Rokeya Begum, Dr Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Tasmia Pradhan and Engr Mahbuba Hakim.
Independent alliance candidate Sultana Jesmin has also been declared elected.
The returning officer said as there was no more than one candidate according to seat allocation among alliances, no voting was required.
Meanwhile, Jamaat alliance candidate Nusrat Tabassum submitted her nomination papers 19 minutes after the scheduled deadline, but the returning officer accepted them following a court order. Her papers will be scrutinised on Saturday.
On the last day of nomination submission on 21 April, discussions arose that the candidacy of Jamaat alliance candidate and NCP leader Monira Sharmin might be cancelled because three years had not passed since her retirement from government service. Subsequently, Nusrat’s nomination papers were hurriedly submitted.
