Police have seized a lorry carrying around 4,500 litres of diesel while it was being illegally unloaded in Gangni, Meherpur.

Gangni Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Karim confirmed the matter. The operation was conducted at around 2:30am on Friday in the Sahebnagar Bazar area of the upazila.

According to the police, the lorry was scheduled to transport from the Khulna depot to Goalgram in Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia.

However, instead of going to its destination, the vehicle stopped at Sahebnagar Bazar, where the fuel was being illegally delivered to the shop of a fertiliser and pesticide businessman named Ripon.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the location. When those involved were asked to produce valid documentation for the fuel, they failed to do so. The lorry was seized from the scene and taken to the police station.

SI Abdul Karim said, “Legal action will be taken against those involved after verifying the documents of the seized oil.”
