The government has drafted a list of 1.45 lakh volunteers to assist in post-earthquake response, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu said on Thursday.
He made the announcement after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat. “The government is preparing volunteers to work in the aftermath of an earthquake. A preliminary list of 1.45 lakh volunteers has been compiled from various organisations,” the minister said.
Minister Dulu added that 445 shelters have been identified across Dhaka North and South City Corporations to accommodate people during emergencies.
He also said the government is considering training teachers and students on earthquake awareness and has discussed incorporating earthquake preparedness into the school curriculum.
“The aim is to ensure both immediate response capacity and long-term awareness among the population,” he added.
