A total of 406 people were arrested in the past 24 hours during regular drives by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital.
The DMP disclosed the information in a press release issued on Sunday, saying 47 cases were filed during the drives.
The highest number of arrests was made in the Mirpur division, where 116 people were detained. The Tejgaon division recorded 66 arrests, followed by Wari with 53, Motijheel with 40, Uttara with 39, Gulshan with 31, Lalbagh with 30 and Ramna with 25.
The Detective Branch of DMP arrested six more people during the operation.
Police recovered 21,622 yaba tablets, 961 bottles of phensedyl, 17.5 litres of locally made liquor, 760 grams of cannabis and 13 grams of heroin from those arrested.
The drives also led to the seizure of a pickup van, a private car, eight mobile phones and Tk3.09 lakh in cash.
Among the recovered weapons were an iron hammer, two machetes, a knife, an axe, a spade and a blade.
The arrests were made during raids conducted by different police stations across Dhaka. Legal action against the detainees is underway.
