Four people fell ill from smoke inhalation while trying to extinguish a fire at the Eastern Plus Shopping Complex in Shantinagar, Dhaka on Tuesday night.
They are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.
The incident occurred around 9:45pm.
The victims were Saurav, 20, Sayem, 18, Sujid Das, 28, and Munayem Hossain, 33.
Market staff Rony said the fire broke out in the basement due to a short circuit. He added that fire service units had not yet arrived when staff managed to put out the flames, but they became sick from the smoke.
Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the burn institute, said none of them suffered burns, but all were affected by smoke inhalation.
