A mild earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was felt in Dhaka and various other regions across the country on Thursday night.
The tremor occurred at approximately 9:40pm on Thursday. According to a bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake was classified as “mild.”
The epicentre of the quake was located in the Indo-Bangladesh border area. This location was approximately 290 kilometres north-east of the seismic centre situated at Agargaon in Dhaka.
No casualties or damages were immediately reported following the tremors.
Previously, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake was felt in Bangladesh on 8 June. The epicentre of that earlier tremor was located approximately five kilometres from the Punakha district in Bhutan.
