A mobile court in Gazipur seized 34,000 litres of illegally hoarded fuel from a filling station in the Konabari area on Monday night.
The drive, led by District Administration Executive Magistrate Salehur Rahman, was conducted at M/S Abdul Ali Filling Station, situated beside the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Baimail. Members of the Ansar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) assisted in the operation.
During the raid, the court recovered 28,521 litres of diesel and 5,419 litres of octane. Authorities found that despite having a vast quantity of fuel in stock, the establishment had suspended sales under the pretext of having no fuel.
The mobile court sentenced the manager of the filling station, Abul Kashem Babul, 60, to one month’s simple imprisonment for illegal hoarding. Babul, a resident of the Baimail area, is the son of the late Abdul Alim.
Magistrate Salehur Rahman confirmed that the filling station has been sealed. He further directed that the seized fuel be sold through the official in charge of Ward 9 of the Gazipur City Corporation, with the proceeds to be deposited into the government treasury.
