3 ‘student coordinators’ detained over extortion

Three persons were detained in the capital early on Saturday on charges of taking extortion money, posing as “student coordinators”.

Acting on secret information, a team of the joint forces held them in Uttara Dakshinkhan area and took them to Ashkona Haji Camp for interrogation.

The arrestees were identified as Asadur Rahman Akash, 24, Farid Uddin, 26, and Robin, 25.

Allegations are rife that the trio was involved in extortion and harassment of local residents through false cases.

They are also accused of managing a juvenile gang under the guise of student coordinators.

Sources said Akash and his accomplices were involved in various illegal activities, including extortion. They allegedly collected a large sum of money through false lawsuits.

The suspects were also charged with inciting mob violence to attack journalists, spread fear, and engage in terrorist activities.
