Three left-leaning student-backed panels – Shompreetir Oikya, Shongshoptok Parshad, and Samajtantrik Chhatra Front – have boycotted the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election, citing allegations of rigging and various irregularities.

The boycott was announced on Thursday afternoon at a press briefing by Jahidul Hasan Emon, the general secretary candidate of the Shongshoptok Parshad panel.

Earlier, the BNP-backed panel also withdrew from the election, accusing the process of vote manipulation and other malpractices.

In addition, three BNP-affiliated teachers – Professor Nahrin Islam Khan, Professor Nazrul Islam, and Professor Shamima Sultana- have resigned from their election duties, citing irregularities in both the JUCSU and hall union elections. They announced their withdrawal on Thursday afternoon.

Professor Shamima Sultana accused the election commission of failing to properly send ballot boxes as required. She criticised the election as being taken lightly and pointed out the creation of new voters on election day and the printing of excess ballot papers. “Today’s election was a scripted drama. That’s why we boycotted it,” she said.
