Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), bringing the death toll to 46 at the hospital.
Hospital spokesperson Dr Shankar K Biswas reported that the three children passed away within the last 24 hours.
During the same period, 23 new patients showing measles symptoms were admitted, while 10 recovered and were discharged. Currently, 133 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, a total of 452 patients have been admitted, of whom 46 have died, Shankar K Biswas added.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain informed the National Parliament on Wednesday that the second phase of nationwide measles vaccination will begin on 20 April.
Responding to a question from lawmaker Rumeen Farhana, he confirmed that sufficient vaccine stocks are available.
The minister added that lapses in vaccine management during previous governments, including the Awami League and interim administrations, had complicated the situation.
“We have received 2.19 crore doses of the measles vaccine, with additional stock available. To prevent corruption and delays, vaccines are being procured directly from UNICEF, bypassing the tender process,” he said.
