Four more people died of dengue in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, while 1,252 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest figures, the dengue death toll in Bangladesh this year has climbed to 111, while the number of hospitalised cases has reached 39,532.

The DGHS released the figures in its daily dengue bulletin on Thursday through the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room in Dhaka.

Of the four deaths reported in the past 24 hours, one occurred in Chattogram division, one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), one in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and one in Khulna division outside the city corporation area.

The deceased were two men and two women. They included a male aged 11-15, females aged 36-40 and 46-50, and a male aged 61-65.

Of the newly hospitalised patients, 247 were admitted in Khulna, the highest among all areas. Dhaka division outside the city corporations recorded 227 admissions, while DNCC also reported 227.

DSCC recorded 194 new patients, followed by Barishal with 135, Chattogram 109, Rajshahi 87, Mymensingh 27, Rangpur four and Sylhet four.

Men accounted for 764 of the new admissions, or 61 percent, while women accounted for 488, or 39 percent. Patients aged 16-30 constituted the largest proportion of new cases.

From 1 January to 3 September, a total of 39,532 dengue patients have been hospitalised nationwide, according to DGHS data.

Of them, 24,406 were men and 14,929 were women.

Among the 111 deaths recorded this year, 50 were men and 61 were women. DSCC has recorded the highest number of deaths, at 37.

So far, 36,467 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, including 1,034 in the last 24 hours.

A total of 2,954 dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country.

August saw the highest number of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 20,536 cases.

In the first three days of September, 3,686 patients have been admitted to hospitals and 14 people have died, DGHS data show.
