Three members of a Bangladeshi family were stabbed to death in a brutal attack at their residence in the Aurelio neighborhood of Italy’s capital Rome on Friday night, according to local media reports.

The victims were identified as Kamal Uddin Babul, 39, son of Sirajul Islam in Ward No. 5 of Char Kakra Union under Companiganj upazila, his wife Momtaz Begum , 35, and their six-year-old daughter Arisha.

The only survivor, the couple’s eldest child Ayon, 20. He was rushed to hospital with injuries but is now reported to be in stable condition and is not in life-threatening danger.

The attack took place around 9pm local time on 26 June at an apartment on Via Montiglio.

Italian authorities said unidentified assailants entered the house and indiscriminately attacked the family members with sharp weapons inside their home.

Three people died on the spot. Another family member sustained serious injuries and was taken to Gemelli Polyclinic, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Local reports, including Italian news agencies ANSA and AGI, said the victims were of Bangladeshi origin and hailed from Companiganj upazila in Noakhali. Police said the family had no known criminal record.

Law enforcement officials have yet to determine the motive behind the killings. Investigators are considering all possible angles, including personal disputes and robbery, while no suspects have been identified so far.

Police and forensic teams rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and launched an investigation. Rome police described the case as highly sensitive and said inquiries are being conducted under strict confidentiality.

A surviving witness, the couple’s teenage son, managed to escape during the attack. He was later found outside the residence with non-life-threatening knife injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed his condition is stable.

Investigators are focusing on CCTV footage, digital evidence, and the victims’ final communications as part of the ongoing probe. According to Il Messaggero, detectives are also examining a preliminary theory involving a possible acquaintance or family friend, although authorities stressed that this angle remains unconfirmed.
